Wear, speed and product handling
Packaging equipment runs faster than most of the machinery we supply, and speed changes which failures matter. Wear still governs service life, but at packaging speeds a part that is fractionally out of profile does not wear out — it mis-tracks, and the line stops for a reason that looks like a jam rather than a worn component.
Product handling is the third constraint and often the tightest. The part is touching a filled pack, a film web or a container that marks easily, so surface finish and material are chosen for what they do to the product as much as for how long they last.
Against steel, moulded polymer offers corrosion-free running, lower noise and less damage to the product surface it touches — which is why so many contact parts on packaging lines are polymer rather than metal.
Rollers, guides and change parts
Polymer rollers carry, guide and tension product and belts: grooved profiles where belts or cords must track, flat profiles where product rides directly. Bore and groove geometry are the critical features, because the bore decides how the roller mounts and runs and the groove decides how the belt or cord tracks.
Guides and wear blocks steer moving product along a defined track while sacrificing their own surface instead of the machine’s. On these the radiused track is the functional surface, so its form and the mounting-hole positions are what get verified.
Change parts are the category where drawing-driven manufacture matters most. A change part exists to run one pack format on a machine built to run several, so it is defined entirely by the format it serves and the machine it fits. There is no catalogue equivalent — which is why these come to us as drawings or as the previous set of parts.
Materials for packaging positions
Nylon and acetal are the working materials for packaging rollers and guides. Acetal holds dimensions with low friction, which suits parts that must keep a profile at speed; nylon adds toughness and quiet running against steel. Where the position is in product contact on a food line, food-grade polymers apply and the hygienic requirements come with them.
Engineering plastics: nylon (PA6/PA66), cast nylon, UHMWPE, HDPE, PTFE and PEEK. Metals: stainless steel 304, 316, 316L, 410 and 420, carbon and alloy steel, brass, phosphor bronze and aluminium. Other grades can be arranged on request.
We machine and mould these depending on the part and the quantity. A single change part is usually faster machined; a set of rollers needed in repeat quantity is better moulded, because the form is then reproduced identically each cycle.
Repeat sets and replacement
We manufacture strictly to your released drawing. Material is verified before machining begins, the first component of each batch is checked against the critical dimensions, in-process checks run through the batch, and finished components are verified to the drawing before packing under batch identification.
Change parts are ordered as sets and re-ordered as sets, so batch identification matters more here than on a single component. An approved set is re-produced to the same drawing revision, which is what keeps a second set interchangeable with the first on the same machine.
If you are replacing existing parts and have no drawing, a sample with dimensions and photographs is a workable starting point. For change parts, the pack format they run is worth stating alongside the geometry.
