What injection moulding is the right process for
Injection moulding suits components whose defining feature is a form rather than a set of cut dimensions — a deep-formed cup, a ribbed cover, a toothed gear, a profiled roller. The form is reproduced the same way every cycle, and that repeatability is the reason moulding is the right process for parts that must stay interchangeable across a machine, or be replaced years later and still fit what is already installed.
The contrast with machining is useful. Where a part is fundamentally a set of concentric diameters holding a relationship to one another — a shaft, a bush, a pin — turning is the process, because the fit is dimensional. Where the part is a formed shape needed in repeat quantity, moulding produces geometry that would be slow and wasteful to cut from solid. Some components need both, and are moulded and then machined where a bore or a face has to be finished to the drawing.
Because the form defines the part, the drawing decisions that matter most are the ones governing fit and function: bolt-hole positions and pitch, bore and keyway, wall and rib geometry, and the mating dimensions the component has to hold against the equipment it goes into. We manufacture to your released drawing, and where a drawing leaves a material or a feature open we raise it before production rather than assume.
Engineering polymers we mould
We mould food-grade HDPE for elevator buckets and product-contact parts; nylon PA6 for guide and wear blocks; nylon and acetal (POM) for gears, sprockets and star wheels; PP and acetal for food-grade guides, scraper blades and fittings; and ABS and PP for machine-protection covers and housings.
Material selection on a moulded part is driven by what the component touches and where it runs — whether it sits in product contact and has to be cleanable, whether it runs dry against a steel partner, whether it takes impact at a loading point, and whether the position is washed down. Acetal holds tooth dimensions with low friction; nylon adds toughness and quiet mesh against steel partners; food-grade polymers stand up to cleaning chemistry without contaminating product.
Not every engineering plastic is a moulding material, and we will say so where it is not. UHMWPE chain guide rails and wear strips, for instance, are produced to drawing by machining rather than moulding. Where a part is better cut than formed, that is how we make it.
Food-grade and hygienic moulded parts
Food-processing machinery needs contact parts that are cleanable, non-corroding and safe against product contamination — guides, scraper blades, star wheels and fittings. We mould these to drawing in food-grade polymers, and the hygienic requirements live in the details: surfaces without crevices that trap product, materials that stand up to cleaning chemistry, and geometry that drains rather than pools.
The same thinking governs elevator buckets for grain, flour and feed. A bucket’s deep-formed cup sets its carrying capacity, the reinforced lip is what survives digging into the product column at the boot, and the twin bolt holes must match your belt’s existing punching so a changeover is bolt-off, bolt-on rather than a re-drilling job on a stopped line.
Those decisions are carried on your drawing. Our review confirms manufacturability against it and flags anything that would compromise the hygienic intent before the component is produced.
Prototype through repeat batch
Quantities are quoted per requirement. For a first article we would normally expect to discuss the drawing before production; for repeat supply, batch references mean an approved component is re-produced to the same drawing revision and the same inspection requirements each time.
That matters most for replacement parts. A moulded bucket or a plastic gear ordered two seasons after the first batch has to fit the same belt punching and the same shaft as the one it replaces, which is why the approved drawing revision — not a re-measured sample — is what the repeat batch is made against.
If you are replacing an existing part and have no drawing, a sample with dimensions and photographs is a workable starting point. We will confirm the material and the critical features with you before anything is produced.

- Do you manufacture injection moulded components to our drawing?
- Yes. Send a drawing, an approved sample, or a specification — we review the requirement, confirm manufacturability, material and process, and manufacture the finished component to it.
- Which polymers do you injection mould?
- Food-grade HDPE, nylon PA6, acetal (POM), PP and ABS across the part families on this page. Other grades can be discussed against your requirement.
- Can you produce food-grade moulded components?
- Yes. Guides, scraper blades, star wheels, fittings and elevator buckets are moulded in food-grade polymers, with cleanable surfaces free of crevices that trap product and geometry that drains rather than pools.
- Do you mould UHMWPE?
- No. UHMWPE chain guide rails and wear strips are produced to drawing by machining rather than injection moulding. Where a component is better cut than formed, we manufacture it that way and say so at the review stage.
- Can you supply replacement moulded parts if we have no drawing?
- Usually yes. A sample with dimensions and photographs is a workable starting point — we confirm the material and the critical features, such as bolt-hole pitch or keyed bore, before producing anything.
- Are moulded components inspected before dispatch?
- Critical dimensions and requirements are verified against the approved drawing or specification, and approved components are identified and packed so a repeat batch is made to the same revision.
